Fields of education:
The municipality of Mynämäki is a member of the Ring of the European Cities of Iron Works. The Mynämäki Art and Craft College educates artisans for various different professional fields. The duration of artisan’s degree programmes is three years. The student can choose one of the following specializations: Wood, Metal, Textile, Fashion or Building construction and Restoration.
The college also provides a national qualification, education and examination for further (special) qualification for blacksmiths and knife smiths. We are specialised in knife making, woodwork tools, hunting tools, leather, design study, damast and ancient techniques. Our school is the only one in Scandinavia who teaches ancient techniques. Around two-hundred students receive an extensive education in handycraft.
Courses are tailor-made to meet the requirements of today and tomorrow, and include practical skills, art, culture, languages, industrial economics, production development, computer studies and a lot of hands-on practice. A special emphasis at the college is given to the design and production of reliable and environmentally sound products. The students are encouraged to start a business of their own and are given opportunities to establish their own production and galleries.
The role of Mynämäki Art and Craft College within the European Iron Academy would be to develop an educational organization for blacksmithing together with other members of the Ring of the European Cities of Iron Works. We offer workshops and education for students and teachers. Students and teachers of Mynämäki Art and Craft College would also have a possibility to visit and study in other cities of the Ring of European Cities of Iron Works. Our purpose is further to expand the European blacksmith and metal design culture.
