School/Institute/Educational centre – General education (secondary level)
Mondra Opleidingen is a practice centre for forging and metal design recognized by Kenteq, a knowledge centre including the metal sector. In 1998 Mr. Cornelis Pronk discovered that since 1962 no more courses were given in terms of forging in the Netherlands. After an inventory of what was still present in the field of teaching materials, Mr. Pronk started to write books about forging and metal design. He also started collecting books at home and abroad. During his visits to blacksmiths he received photos, films etc. which have been digitized and are available to students. Mr. Pronk is former chairman of Internationaler Fachverband Gestaltender Schmiede (IFGS), an organization with members all over Europe, with the aim to include young people into the world of forging and metal design. For his work in the field of training in forging and metal design, he received a royal honour of Ridder in de Orde van Oranje Nassau (Knight in the Order of Orange Nassau) in 2011.
Mondra Opleidingen works with the industrial school Anton Tijdink in Terborg. Mr. Pronk is a member of the delegation of Oude IJsselstreek for the international association Ring of the European Cities of Iron Works. The purpose and role of Mondra Opleidingen in the European Iron Academy is to develop an educational organization, together with other partners, in which students and teachers can study and visit other cities in Europe to expand their knowledge and experiences. Make sure that the culture of forging doesn’t disappear but will expand.
